The Youth Initiative for Progress in Iraq aims to provide Iraqi and American youth with a voice and the tools necessary to make concrete progress toward a sustainable and peaceful future between the two countries.
The non-partisan Youth Initiative for Progress in Iraq conference, held from July 14th to July 25th, 2008, brought together 16 Iraqi and 16 American participants between the ages of 16-19, aided by 11 student facilitators, to King’s Academy boarding school outside of Amman, Jordan. The conference was a groundbreaking event that aimed to remedy the destructive effects of the conflict not only by bringing youth together to dispel misconceptions and work to understand each other’s backgrounds and beliefs, but also by empowering and inspiring youth to work together to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the conflict.
